![]() ![]() The illustrations that were featured as the chapter headers, as well as the ones for the Rat Alphabet, were adorable and added value to the enjoyability of this book. The edition that I own has been gorgeously adorned by Laura Ellen Anderson's illustrations. Since we are talking about the Discworld books aimed at children, it was great to see the return of the elusive chapters in a Discworld book after such a long time. This book later went on to win the Carnegie Medal – the most prestigious prize in British children's literature. It also holds the unique distinction of being the first Discworld novel specifically targeted toward children and the young adult age group. This story, in particular, is Pratchett's take on the fairy tale of the Pied Piper and a parody of the folk tale genre in general. ![]() Guess you can never run away from the Discworld once you are a huge fan, eh? Since I had been planning to watch the 'Amazing Maurice' animated movie soon, I decided it would be better to tackle the book first. Apparently, I had read the foreword section a few weeks ago and then left the book unread in my hurry to finish up the City Watch arc. But, after writing the review for that book, I realized that I still had 'The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents' book in my "Currently Reading" pile of books. If you have been following my Discworld reviews, I mentioned taking a long sabbatical from the Discworld series after finishing 'Raising Steam'. ![]()
